The increasing number of retirements, particularly in senior management positions, all along the UN Common System could result in a potential loss of leadership continuity, institutional knowledge and expertise in the next few years. Therefore, succession planning is becoming a distinct strategic imperative that will help organizations to deal with potential loss of continuity, intellectual capital and leadership at the managerial level that will result from senior management retirements.

 The HR Network members consider it a very important issue and will develop a framework for the organizations.
