It is true: The gap between women and men occupying the professional ranks in the UN System has become smaller since 1994. But it continues to exist, particularly from the P-3 level on. Only at the P-1 and P-2 levels have the number of women surpassed the number of men – and whether these will translate into higher numbers of female staff at the middle and senior levels in the coming years remains to be seen.
