It is true: The gap between women and men occupying the professional ranks in the UN System has become smaller since 1994. But it continues to exist, particularly from the P-3 level on. Only at the P-1 and P-2 levels have the number of women surpassed the number of men – and whether these will translate into higher numbers of female staff at the middle and senior levels in the coming years remains to be seen. As many organizations have experienced, retention problems occur in particular the P-3/P-4 levels and among female professional staff.
