Length of service of Professional and General staff

Number of Professional Staff by length of service
Number of General Staff by length of service
Number of staff by length of service
Number of Staff by lenght of service

These three charts show the length of service at Professional and General Staff levels within the UN System.

At Professional level there is a decreasing curve, which means that the number of staff members who have been in the system for less than five years is larger than that of those who have been with the UN for more than 5 years .

At General Staff levels there is a gap between the numbers of staff with ‘up to ten years’ of service, and those with ‘over fifteen years’ of service, which could lead to the conclusion that, those that make it beyond 15 years of service tend to stay on for longer.

Comparison of the length service between General Service and Professional staff shows that the number of Professional staff is higher under 10 years of service, but that the trends between the two categories of staff tend to converge as length of service increases.

Please not that there is no data available for Professional staff under 5 years, whereas data for GS staff is subcategorised into ‘less than 2 years’ and ‘2 to less than 5 years’.
